Print finishing is a service offered that enhances and embellishes printed items after the ink is dry. For example, if you have a direct mail piece going out to your customers, you could have a sample pack glued to the piece. In order to have the sample pack affixed to the piece, you would send it to a print finishing company who could handle that job for you, among others. So what are some of the most popular types of print finishing and some examples of when you would use them?
Embossing is when a raised impression is made on card stock or paper stock. Debossing is the opposite: a depression impression is made on card stock or paper stock. You can use these for party invitations, special event invitations, direct mail marketing pieces and much more. Embossing is usually done in combination with a print finishing technique called foil stamping, discussed below.
